The Summary of the 50th Xizi English Salon
by Rosemary
The 50th English Salon was held on July 19th. Besides the hostess of the activity, Rosemary, other attendees included Joe, Peter, Daniel, Kevin, Tony, Emily, Shmily, Never, Lenny, Abby, Jimmy, Black, Sabrina, Qiang, Harry, Amy and Lejla.
The activity was originally designed into four parts though, only three parts were actually practised due to the limit of time.
The first part was self--introduction and joke telling. The funny story told by Emily about her little son, the characteristic self--introductions of the new commers, the infectious song '' Take Me to Your Heart'' sung by Daniel were unmistakably impressive and earned enthusiastic responce from other attendees.
In the second part of the activity, all the attendees were divided into four groups and the four groups competed with each other in a word--puzzle game. Members of Group 3 with extraordinary wit and logical explanations which touched the point of the meaning of words won the game. A special mention should be also given to Group 4, for their explanations of the two Chinese idioms“ 十万八千里”and “鼠目寸光”triggered uproarious laughter from the other groups.
The third part is concerned with performaces. Each group was required to make an advertisement to promote the image of Beijing and then perform the ad with joint effort of group mates. The ad made by Group 1 was creative and funny, and revealed to us the acting talent of its members. No doubt they won approval from other groups. Group 3 was also the winner of the game, as the group showed us a comprehensive picture of Beijing in the limited 6 minutes. Although Group 2 and Group 3 did not win the game, their efforts and presentations were also valued and appreciated.
The activity of the 50th English Salon lasted 2 hours from 7:30p.m. to 9:30p.m.. At the end of the activity, the hostess expressed her gratitude to the support of all the participants and wished them a pleasant weekend.
